Making progress, lifting heavy
I started weight-lifting in September of 2025 with two goals. I hoped to one day be able to deadlift 100lb. The other goal is a tougher one: I want to be strong, flexible, and have good balance when I am old.
When I was little, my dad seemed like a giant, strong and agile, he could hold me and my sister at the same time. I saw him in March 2026 and he can no longer stand unaided, he uses a powered wheelchair to get around but needs help to get into and out of it. Over the years since he retired he has had multiple sessions of physical therapy but he rarely did the exercises he was told to do, and it took a toll on him. That's what I am trying to avoid.
So I joined a gym, I got a personal trainer, and I push hard to keep strong and flexible. In addition to the gym, I'm a 4th degree black belt in kenpo karate. Every week I'm working on sparring and self defense techniques, which gives me balance and flexibility work.
Every time I hit a new record, it's logged in my gym notebook. My records this week are:
Biceps curl 17.5lb.
Triceps lift 40lb.
Bench press 65lb.
Shoulder press 45lb.
Squat 85lb.
