Summer, spiders, and tails

It's the middle of summer, according to the spiders observed by Fred First in his blog Fragments from Floyd.  I would be watching the spiders around here, but they're all in the basement and Quantum the kitten turns out to be an expert bug hunter.  The cause of her lost tail is that it was driven over, and presumably crushed.  She doesn't seem to miss it much.  Emily Pettersen came over and fell for the kitten, so we could change her name to Bagpuss ("Saggy, and a bit loose at the seams, but Emily loved him") if we really wanted to.  Quantum is named for Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, which states (more or less) that you cannot know with precision a particle's  location and velocity at the same time.  Pick one, and the other will be somewhat more fuzzy.
