Chorlton's First Spin

Evelyn: "Look, I... I may not be an explorer, or an adventurer, or a treasure-seeker, or a gunfighter, Mr. O'Connell, but I am proud of what I am."

Rick: "And what is that?"
Evelyn: "I... am a librarian."

(Quote from The Mummy)

I am a spinner.  I haven't forgotten how to spin, which is a relief. All it took was some Corriedale pencil roving.  I spun thin singles, and the wheel is smooth.  No squeaks, just a gentle thrumming sound.  I love the look of Chorlton, blonde wood and simple design.  The treadles are connected by a piece of wood, and they move smoothly.  Figured out how to extract the bobbins, which I never did with the loaner wheel.  My Ikea spinning chair is the perfect height for the wheel, I just need a way to play classical music upstairs.  For some reason, I spin better to classical music.  Chorlton is named after the happiness dragon in Chorlton and the wheelies, a 1970s kids TV show from England.  Spinning makes me happy, so it fit.  I'm missing Bob though.  Rox said "orifice hook" is a horrible name and called it Bob instead.  Right now I'm using an unfolded paperclip, same as for the spinning class.

And this is the first skein spun on Chorlton, two ply Corriedale:

First skein on Chorlton.

It's still not consistent, but there are longer consistent sections than before.  It's drying in the bathroom after a quick wash.  Lost a chunk of Corriedale to dodgy plying (spin clockwise, ply anticlockwise, you'd think I'd remember that) but it's a decent size skein, and finished off the fibre.  I'm going to try either the Spunky Eclectic merino next, it's a beautiful orange yellow colour, or the dark Coopworth.  And this time I'll have the wheel going slower so I can concentrate better.  Practice makes better, right?
