Poetry

"The desire of depressed people, especially depressed teenagers, to write bad poetry is so common that it should be listed as an official symptom in the DSM-IV."

Haiku, sonnets, and flumes are poetry forms that require discipline.  The first two specify number of syllables, which line rhymes with which other line, and rhythm of words used, the flume requires a good dictionary.  These I have no trouble with.  It's the free verse that kills.  No structure, sometimes no punctuation, dull subject matter, no rhythm, or rhyme, or reason.  We segregated it on the CDP message boards, stuffed it into its own board and ignored it from a distance.  Maybe that should be a new rule: No poetry.  I like the sound of that.
